University of South Carolina Cockaboose

Cockaboose renovation

USC Cockabooses provide a unique opportunity for football fans to do tailgating in style. In the 1990s the 22-car Cockaboose Railroad debuted creating the perfect pre-game location for USC football fans. Each car is 30x9 and boast a kitchenette, bathroom, and deck. The cars are assembled end-to-end on an unused track of railroad. These beauties sell for around $300k each, and don’t stay on the market for long.

Client Needs:

  • Total renovation of the space

Sacon Solution

We were contracted by an interior designer to remodel one of these famous Cockabooses, taking this space from dark and dingy to bright and inviting. This one-of-a-kind project required a complete gut and demolition of the existing space with installation of all updated features. Everything was custom built, from the cabinets made in our cabinet shop to custom furniture and cushions.

Unique lighting was infused throughout the space. Track lighting was placed throughout the main space while industrial wall sconces provide direct lighting for seating and work spaces. Solid surface countertops offered the opportunity for under counter appliances, and cabinetry providing small-space storage options. Multiple televisions were hung in various locations for watching the games. Custom patterned wallcoverings, complement the natural custom shelving. Modern cabinet hardware tied in the industrial elements throughout the design.

Unique restroom features, window trim and custom horizontal paneling features complete the overall design and create a luxurious and inviting space.
